Executive Director: Heather Smith, BSc.

As Executive Director at People for Animal Wellbeing (PAW), Heather has dedicated more than two decades of her career to advancing animal wellbeing. She has held multiple leadership roles within the organization since joining 22 years ago, becoming Executive Director in 2022. Heather holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Prince Edward Island and is currently pursuing a Post-Graduate Diploma in Non-Profit Leadership.

Heather is passionate about building strong community partnerships, advancing humane education, and ensuring the shelter provides compassionate, low-barrier services. Under her leadership, PAW has expanded programs that strengthen the bond between people and their pets while focusing on long-term sustainability.

Beyond her professional role, Heather is a proud pet guardian of six cats and two dogs, and she has enjoyed competing in various canine sports and activities, reflecting her lifelong commitment to animal wellbeing.
